Gerritsen Beach

Gerritsen Beach is a small waterfront neighborhood with a strong community. There are no subways, tunnels or bridges to Gerritsen Beach, isolating it from the rest of the city. The neighborhood is only accessible by Gerritsen Avenue, which runs down the center of the peninsula. Narrow streets and close-set homes with small yards characterize the residential areas while Gerritsen Avenue functions as the neighborhood’s commercial district. Residents are mostly blue-collar families who have lived in the area for generations. Grown families often live together on the same block, helping to promote the community in which everybody knows each other. During the summer, block parties and street fairs are common occurrences and children can be found swimming, boating or fishing on the beach. This small town atmosphere makes Gerritsen Beach particularly safe, even though it lacks certain amenities available in the rest of the city. Overall, Gerritsen Beach is a comfortable, pleasant neighborhood. Source: Streeteasy
